FROM THE EDITOR

Coming soon: The end of an era
The tenure of the Market Research Tools on bCentral is coming to a close in July of this year. The entire bCentral portal is being replaced by the new Microsoft Small Business Center.

The new site combines some of the small-business offerings and content from Microsoft bCentral with other content from Microsoft.com. The bCentral demographics area, sponsored by Third Wave Research, will not be included in the new site. Access to all of our content via the bCentral site will end in July.

Don’t worry—you’ll still be able to use the Market Research Tools and resources anytime you like.

Until July 1, simply use the tools on bCentral as you have in the past. We’ll contact you then with new instructions for accessing the tools after July 1. Your log-in and purchase history at bCentral Market Research Tools will be transferred to our "private label" version of the bCentral demographics website. You won’t need to re-register, and your information will not be transferred or resold to any other company.

We are actively looking for a new partner so that the Market Research Tools continue to be available where new business people will find them. Please take a few moments to visit our survey and tell us a little about your satisfaction with our tools, and your use of other business information websites. Your responses will help us find the right new partner.

Thank you!

SURVEY

BONUS: Two Surveys this month!

Market Research Tools User Survey

Working Solo Survey on Networking
Working Solo founder Teri Lonier invites you to participate in a survey on networking. You’ll be part of her research on the impact of networks on small business growth. The survey takes only 8-10 minutes to complete, is 100% confidential (no email names are collected), and is fun to do. Come add your voice to the hundreds of soloists who have already shared their ideas about business networks. Click here to take the survey.

The research is part of a project that Teri and a colleague will be presenting at an entrepreneurship research conference in June. The focus is on the impact of networking on the success of small business. Teri has promised to share her research results with me, and I’ll share them with you in a future issue of this newsletter.

TOOL BITS

Business Review: Parties by Panache

Sometimes you don’t know what you know until you take the time to write it down. That’s what the Business Review is all about.

The Business Review is a tool that can help you write a business plan, spend your advertising budget wisely, or just get a grip on priorities for your marketing efforts. It’s a tool I’ve used over two decades, and the place I start whenever I begin work as a consultant with a new client. You can read all about it in the new edition of my book, Complete Idiot’s Guide to Marketing. Or just click "more" to read an example of the Business Review, applied to Parties by Panache, a full service caterer/event planning firm serving Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and Northern San Diego Counties, California. Thank you, Jerry O’Brien, for volunteering to be featured in the Bulletin! More...
